June 2020

Black Lives Matter. This is a moment of truth for the history of humankind. It is impossible not to see, and begs immediate engagement. When we, as individuals and organizations, are on the sidelines watching fellow citizens suffer for the basic freedom of life, we are accomplices to the crime.  It is the time to reflect inward and take meaningful action. Today, taking meaningful action, matters more than ever.

Our first step in the journey is to acknowledge that in partnership with our members, we need to understand what that meaningful action looks and feels like.

According to the ICF the definition of Coaching is "... partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." Can we, with our hands on our hearts, say that we can truly inspire people to that, when the safety and humanity of the individuals is at risk?

If the answer is NO, then there is a lot we can and should do.

Let's figure it out together.

We invite you to a Town Hall on June 18th at 6 pm for a dialog as a key driver to co-create next steps.

The board will be there to work as one team, one voice against systemic racism, inequality and social injustice.

In the meantime, we are doing two things and we invite/encourage you to do that as well.

1. The most critical support at this time is to donate to the organizations dedicated to social and racial justice work.

We encourage you to do your own research and get involved in an organization you care about by donating, volunteering and amplifying the work that is needed to create change.

2. Educate yourself. Become well-versed with these biases, challenges and their nuances embedded in our culture, workplace and conversations.

Here are some resources we have gathered:

The more knowledgeable we are, the more courageous we can be in our client interactions that stimulate their higher level thinking, equip them for crucial and difficult conversations and create a measurable impact, thus move us toward a fair and equitable world.
